Ed Warren grew up in a haunted house. From the tender age of 5, he had experienced supernatural phenomena. He would later tell of some of these experiences, of an old lady peering out at him from his bedroom closet, and footsteps and weird sounds issuing from thin air.
As a young adult, he vowed to learn more about the supernatural world, and to seek out others who may have had similar haunting experiences.
Hence, the New England Society for Psychic Research was founded in 1952 by Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The society is dedicated to the exploration and investigation into all areas of the supernatural and preternatural realm. Ed and Lorraine Warren have spent their entire adult lives seeking knowledge of the supernatural world. With the knowledge gleaned from over 50 years of research and investigation, they've helped thousands of desperate families in need of relief from the trauma and tragedy inflicted by evil and otherworldly forces.
With the passing of Ed Warren, Lorraine Warren, assisted by her son-in-law, Tony Spera, have decided to carry on the research in this never ending struggle against evil and demonic forces.
Our mission is to seek answers to previously unanswered questions. We endeavor to find the truth in matters relating to the supernatural, preternatural, and occult world.
To assist in any way we can to free those persons who suffer the pain and despair that comes from dabbling in occult practices, or who innocently have fallen victim to forces that emanate from the dark side.
To share our knowledge with others, because we believe that knowledge is power, and power used correctly can overcome all obstacles.
Lorraine Warren
Lorraine Rita Moran was born on January 31, 1927 at Bridgeport, Connecticut, to parents James and Georgiana Moran. From an early age, Lorraine knew she was different from other children. At age 9 she recalls seeing lights around people, including the nuns who taught her at the prestigious Laurelton Hall parochial school in Milford, Connecticut. Of course she would later learn that she was actually seeing the human aura, the supernatural glow that surrounds every person.
She recalls commenting to one of her school mates that one of the nun's lights was brighter than Mother Superior's lights. Unfortunately for Lorraine, Mother Superior overheard her, and young Lorraine was roundly punished for talking about lights around people.
At age 16 Lorraine met her future husband, Ed Warren. Again, the encounter was not without a supernatural element. She recalls, "My friends and I were going out to a movie. One of my girlfriends said she knew a nice boy she wanted me to meet. Now I really wasn't into boys at all. I thought they were all rough and loud and scruffy. And besides, none of them could ever live up to my father or my brother, who were very gentle and loving to me. But after much coaxing I relented, and did agree to meet this boy. That boy was Ed."
Lorraine continues, "There was this young, cute kid, slim in stature and dressed very neatly. He was clean-cut and full of fun. After the movie, he asked if he could walk all of us home, and we agreed. About a block before my house, one of the girls said, "Hey Ed, there's your house, you'd better go. Now you must remember that times were different back then. Boys normally didn't walk girls all the way to their front door. My girlfriend knew that if we continued on our way, it would just be Ed and me, left alone. Ed smiled and waved good bye to all of us, and turned and ran across the street, toward home. At that moment, as I watched him, I didn't see the young, athletic boy of 16 years old. Psychically, I could see him as he was many years later, an adult man with graying hair and a more portly stature, the man that I would spend the rest of my life with. In fact, when I arrived home that evening, I wrote in my diary, "I will spend the rest of my life with him."
Lorraine Warren's psychic abilities have been well documented, having been tested at UCLA and deemed to possess a very high degree of psychic awareness.
She and her husband, Ed Warren have investigated thousands of cases of haunting and other supernatural phenomena, and have been acknowledged as "America's top Ghost hunters."
Tony Spera
Director, New England Society for Psychic ResearchTony Spera is the son-in-law of Ed and Lorraine Warren. He is married to their daughter, Judy.
Tony has been interested in the supernatural since his late teens. A former police officer, Tony looks at possible haunting phenomena with a critical and skeptical eye. It isn't enough to be told by a family of phenomena that is occurring in a home. Tony's previous investigative experience allows him to methodically investigate a haunting, and with a very critical eye.
Tony began working with Ed and Lorraine Warren in 1981, and learned all that he could about the supernatural realm by reading books, gleaning information from Mentor Ed Warren, and going on hundreds of cases with them. He has assisted the Warrens with their college lectures for over twenty years.
He lives in New Milford, Connecticut with his wife, Judy.
